5 steps to strength coaches and athletes
The 5 movement phases to develop athletes and coaches, as outlined in the “Move and Row”
1st phase – The basis
Learning the loco-motor movement patterns (running, jogging, moving forward and backwards, side shuffling, jumping, leaping, crawling, imitation of animal movements), functional movement patterns (squat, lunge, hinge, push, pull, carry and rotations), and manipulative movements (throwing, catching, kicking, hitting, striking, dribbling, putting and volleying).

2nd phase – Rowing technique
Rowing basics exercises in the boat and on the ergometer, along with supportive movement exercises carried over from the 1st phase.

3rd phase – Upgrade of motor control
Developing DNS technique — Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization, an integrated approach to treating the deep stabilizing system of the whole body, focusing on “motor control” (the regulation of movement via the nervous system), which develops in early childhood and continues to govern movement and action at all ages — together with soft skills development (building on knowledge gained from the Beach Blast Erasmus+ Sport project). Coaches gain practical experience and knowledge of DNS during the Grow & Row camp.

4th phase – Reinforce the connection between the cognitive and motor centre
The dual-task approach: training and implementing dual tasks within rowing-specific training sessions, integrating simultaneous motor and cognitive challenges to enhance adaptability and reaction speed.

5th phase – Versatile rowing athlete in Beach Sprint
Introducing Beach Sprint-specific requirements into training sessions: velocity, power, agility, mobility, and gender-mixed crews.
